... I beg that you give me your permit. You have asked me to send you a
detailed list. The 145 (sacks?) which came from Addis Ababba has not entered
to the accounts. In the grain which was kept in Afedmo there are termites.
You wrote to me that I should put ash on it. Ash is however not available in
Afedmo. If it is acceptable to you I will down load the grain after getting
on paper the name of the foreigner. (We think that this grain means the one
that arrived from Addis Ababa as mentioned above). We'll take care that the
grain wont be spoilt again. Now I'll try to sort the good grain and
distribute it. Your faithful servant Kebede. Yekatit 18th 1891 (signature)
The Province Block piece is canceled with a fake Harar post mark. The date is
4 (in Amharic) 7 99. In original handstamp the numbers are all in Amharic
and according to the Ethiopian calendar. The date of sending this document
should have been in Amharic 6 18 91. So the one who used the faked Harar
postmark either did not know the Ethiopian calendar or made the wrong date
knowingly.
The seal appears to be an impression of an Ethiopian Menelik Trade Dollar.
